The reason behind the brand
Nala
Back in 2016 I had just gone through a big change in my life and was looking to get my first dog for companionship. Having grown up around German Shepherds I knew this was the breed for me!
With plenty of research done, I completed the 472 mile round trip from Cornwall to Sheffield to view a litter of puppies, and let's be honest I was never leaving there without one was I!!
I actually had my heart set on getting a male dog but as they say, the dog chooses you, and sure enough Nala chose me and I knew I couldn't travel back home without her - I mean look at that face, can you blame me!
Fast forward to
2018
Nala had enjoyed quite a destructive puppy life, managing to renovate the house by chewing holes in stone walls and pulling up the flooring in the kitchen!
Naturally as an owner I was wondering what was driving this behaviour and how I could prevent it from becoming a lifelong occourance. She was well exercised, had plenty of toys and never left for long periods of time alone.
This all led me down many rabbit holes, understanding more about animals behaviour and the impact some foods & treats can have on them and actually led me to look into her diet and the quality of what she was eating.
Amazed by what I found and how bad some foods & treats were for her, as well as how little information was readily available to people I knew I wanted to change this and help people to understand the importance of a good diet for their dogs and that it can be achieved easily whilst also support the environment.
Market Stalls
2021
Nala was now well into her new and improved diet and I was noticing the big change to her overall condition and health, from her coat to a much better demeanour in general.
I knew then that I wanted to share this with others who had experienced similar to myself, so in late 2021 I started doing local monthly markets at The Royal William Yard, Plymouth with the aim of providing people high quality products and sharing my experiences.
It soon became apparent that this was a common theme for people and there was a lack of readily available advice or support out there and this was something I wanted to change.
2025
Nala's Pet Co. Ltd
Having done the monthly markets at the Royal William Yard for over 3 years I decided to take the next step and go full time with the business!
When thinking about the name and brand I knew that I wanted to incorporate Nala into it as much as possible and so Nala's Pet Co. Ltd was born, officially registering the business in April 2025
We moved into our first store at Unit 6 Brewhouse Arcade, Royal William Yard in August 2025 and are really excited to see what the future holds for us.
